Get Accurate Order Dates and Minimize Supply Chain Woes with MFP
December 8, 2023As a locally owned and operated automation engineering company, MFP is uniquely suited to serve West Michigan. We’re here to help our customers and community succeed. Here are just three advantages of working with a local company for your motion control, fluid power, and automation needs.
1. We’re Literally Right Here When You Need Us
MFP Automation Engineering began because we knew a local hydraulics distributor was the best option for local customers. Roger Betten Sr and two partners started MFP after the company they worked for was acquired by a large conglomerate.
After a month or two, they realized they no longer worked at the same kind of locally-focused company they loved being a part of. The company’s decision-making power was taken out of West Michigan, meaning it was harder to pivot quickly and solve customer problems. This still happens today when big corporations buy local distributors. Customers usually end up paying the price.
What started in 1991 as Michigan Fluid Power has grown into one of the top 30 distributors of motion control, fluid power, and automation products in the country. And we’re still locally owned and operated. We’re always here to answer the phone, dispatch people to your shop, and troubleshoot issues that just can’t wait on the corporate decision-making process. We’ll get you back up and running and help your business succeed.
2. We’ve Grown Alongside West Michigan
West Michigan isn’t just known for our sandy beaches, craft breweries, and annual ArtPrize competition. We also have one of the most diverse and hard-working manufacturing communities in the Midwest. As our community has grown, so have we.
Our original vision for MFP was to serve local businesses as a hydraulics distributor and power unit build shop. Our founders started from scratch with zero customers and zero sales. They didn’t even have a vehicle, wrenches, or welders.
Their advantage was focusing on the community. MFP salespeople used to drive country roads and knock on the doors of small machine shops. We talked to local business owners, learned what their challenges were, and figured out how to help them. Putting our customers first helped us grow our capabilities and services. Now, we specialize in pneumatics, hydraulic power units, custom manifolds, servo motors, motion control products, and much more!

3. You Don’t Have To Take Our Word For It…
…because there’s an easy way to tell if we practice what we preach.
Like most companies, we talk about our vision, mission, and values on our website. Our values are summed up in a simple statement: we are here to serve.
Of course, it’s easy to say nice things on your website. It’s much harder to know if we live out those values day to day.
Because we’re locally owned, you can stop by our office in Hudsonville, take a tour, and see if our company culture matches what we say online. And by culture, we don’t mean bean bags and massage chairs. We mean employees who are excited about their jobs and always do what’s right for the customer. We mean an engaged leadership team who care deeply about serving West Michigan and finding solutions to make our customers' lives easier.
